Her desire to play sports was born as a child. Gerina started playing golf at the age of fifteen. Gerina attended Goddard High School for her higher education in high school. In high school she won New Mexico's state golf tournament. She also played volleyball at the national level. 2003, she began studying at the University of Texas. She won all of the tournaments she played in during her senior year. In her undergraduate years, she earned the titles as Conference USA Female Athlete and Conference USA Individual Player of the year.
